Davison-Designed Pampering Products Stay Ahead in Trends!

Davison News, Featured Invention, Product News

Two of the hottest Davison-designed beauty products are continuing to pick up steam in the fashion world. Already popular with online trendsetters, the TheraPED  and the Manicure Multitool are featured in the Fall 2013 edition of Trends Magazine!

The TheraPED, a spa-therapy product that provides hot and cold relief for sore, aching feet, was invented by our client, Lennell.

The Manicure Multitool, invented by our late client, Cathalene, makes at-home manicures and pedicures a breeze with six essential nail tools.

After Davison helped complete the design for the two products, it didn’t take long for Health Enterprises, Inc. President Brendan Leonard to take notice and license the items.

Now, the pampering must-haves will be sharing the spotlight on page 56 of the Fall 2013 issue of Trends Magazine!

Deemed “the magazine” for Canadian fashion retailers, Trends provides Canadian fashion buyers with “the most comprehensive, searchable and up-to-date directory of suppliers and contact information available to the Canadian fashion industry.”

Does Davison Buy My Idea?

Inventing Advice, Package Design, Prototyping

So you have a product idea and want to turn it into a real product selling on store shelves. But having the idea and turning it into something real are the beginning and end of a very long road. There are many steps along the way; such as product and patent searches, prototype building, and manufacturing.  Most inventors don’t have the time or money to develop a new invention on their own.  Therefore, a lot of inventors consider trying to sell their invention to companies that have the resources to manufacture and market the product and make it a success.

new product ideaNow the question is: who is going to buy my invention?

That is a great question, and the Davison invention development process was constructed to help you find an answer to that question.

Davison is a product development company that gives inventors the tools they need to move their ideas from early-stage concepts to a professional product sample ready to present to manufacturers. However, Davison does not buy any ideas and it does not take ownership in an individual’s ideas or inventions. Rather, Davison has refined and developed a unique inventing method over the past twenty years that works with the inventor to design, engineer, build, package and present their ideas to manufacturers for possible licensing agreements. Going through these steps is critically important because manufacturers often want to see a working model or prototype.  In fact, they usually want to see a product that is very close to being ready to manufacture.

If Davison is successful in finding a licensee for a product, they will also provide licensing negotiation and royalty management services. Davison offers licensing representations services for 10% or more of the future royalties. However, this is not considered a purchase of patent or invention rights and no purchase or partnerships with Davison are offered. All throughout this process, the inventor remains the owner of the invention.

So rather than buy an idea, Davison works with clients to bring their ideas to market.  Whether it’s an idea that will enhance a current product, or an idea to develop a product from scratch, Davison has the experience, high quality technology, and the drive to provide professional quality invention development services.

Pugz™ Soft Suedes and Fall Fleeces Cloak Petco in Eye-catching Endcaps

Davison News, Hugs Pet Products, Product News

The 2012 Fall Pugz ™ line is now in stores!

But even more exciting than having Pugz boots in one Petco and Pugz leg warmers in another Petco across town, the entire fall line is prominently displayed on endcaps.

Showcasing leashes, beds, coats, leg warmers, harnesses, boots — all featuring Pugz’s signature faux suede and fleece combination – the visual appeal of these endcaps creates a gravitational pull on Petco customers shopping anywhere near this K-9 couture.

CEO and founder of Davison, George Davison, calls the Petco Pugz endcaps a defining moment in company history and compares the excitement of seeing all of these Pugz products in one space to the excitement of “stepping to the plate and hitting a grand slam.”

“When you allow yourself to dream, you are opening yourself up for a lot of pain if stuff doesn’t work out, which I’m used to. Because of the continual effort at absorbing risks and overcoming challenges this is what can happen if you believe. If you don’t believe and have enough character, the dreams aren’t possible,” says Davison.

The 2012 Fall Pugz line, which is now in Petco and will be in Bed, Bath & Beyond on September 20th, delivers cozy comfort for every pup.

Walk with warmth

Smaller dogs get cold faster in low temperatures, but that’s no reason to abandon those long walks you and your pup enjoy. Instead, protect him or her from the elements with Pugz Boots. These adorably designed, faux leather and faux wool shoes provide comfort and keep your pet’s paws dry in any weather!  Plus, their breathable, cushioned fabric sole eliminates nasty claw scratches from hardwood floors. With an adjustable hook and loop strap, Pugz are a secure fit for every pooch!

Little paws aren’t the only appendages to keep the chill out during the fall and winter. Your dog will appreciate some leg protection, too. Pugz Leg Warmers keep your dog’s legs warm and protected with their lightweight faux suede and fleece. Perfect for pups of all sizes, these leg warmers include hook and loop straps and elastic nylon to ensure a secure fit.

Walk with confidence

Excited dogs and young pups often pull during their walks. This not only creates uncomfortable exercise for you, but can injure your dogs neck if you’re only using a collar. Get back control and enjoy those walks again with the Pugz Harness.

The Pugz Harness is a comfortable and stylish solution for reducing the stress and strain on both dogs and owners during walks. Made with breathable and lightweight faux suede and fleece, this harness is adjustable for a custom fit on your dog or growing puppy.

Add the Pugz Leash for 6 feet of stylish safety. The ultra-soft, fleece-lined generously sized handle keeps your hand cozy and comfortable, while the durable nylon leash allows you to securely walk your pet with confidence. The sturdy chrome hardware conveniently attaches to your favorite collar.

Now Sleep!

Walk nap, walk nap. That’s your best friend’s daily agenda. Optimize their comfort after those warming walks with the Pugz Air Puff Bed, which supports the limbs of older or injured pets, but is perfect for dogs without health problems as well. An adjustable frame and soft faux wool provide a warm and cozy place for any pet to relax. The removable cover is easy to wash and keep clean. For use at home, in the car or on a trip, the Pugz Air Puff Bed is easy to transport.

Twenty-twelve also features the Pugz Box Bed (see below on endcap), which allows your pet to nuzzle into cozy comfort. The ultra-durable, luxuriously cushioned base and sides invite your pet to snuggle up, get comfortable and relax.  The bed is also lightweight, portable and can be machine washed!

Davison attributes the success of Pugz and other Davison products to the Davison methodology, which George Davison has been crafting for over 20 years. “We have to have really good soils to grow our seeds. This is the combination of Inventionland and our [inventing] methodology to have not only one, but all of those [products] hit the shelf.”

Congratulations to Pugz, Hugs and Davison for all the hard work put into a great line of pup products. When dogs are dressed to the nines in their new Pugz boots and legwarmers, warm and comfortable tails are sure to be wagging outside of Petco stores this fall and winter!

Mr. D and host Kristy Villa (Friday, August 17, 2012 at 7:00 a.m.) will talk about the Davison Inventing method and the Better Tether before and after the airing of george davison ed yoder inventor of better tetherEd’s episode of “Dare to Invent” – the webisode series that explores what can happen when everyday people work with Davison to make their invention ideas a reality.

Ed desired a more convenient and humane way to tether his dog outdoors! He got tired of his precious pup’s chain knocking over the food and water bowl while the pet was tethered in the yard… not to mention, the dish and the chain were often in the way of the lawnmower! Ed brought his idea for a “better” tethering device to Davison.

Unlike traditional tethers that wrap around trees or unwieldy stakes, Ed’s tether is secured to the ground, eliminating an obstacle to pets, humans and machines. The divided food and water bowl can never be tipped over and the entire unit sits lower than the blades of a lawnmower and never has to be moved. hugs pet products better tetherA leash can be attached directly to the strong steel post, and the vivid orange color makes the bowl highly visible.

Congratulations to Mr. Davison, Ed and the Davison Creationeers for getting the chance to showcase the Dare to Invent – Better Tether episode to a national audience!

Davison’s New Spins on Old Gifts

Davison News, Product News

With Father’s Day on the horizon, children, significant others and the gift-giving masses often struggle to find a present that shows how much they care about pops. Great fathers aren’t complicated, so their gifts shouldn’t be either. This year, consider these Davison products that offer new takes on some time-tested trinkets.

A Cut Above the Rest

Whistle KnifeCreated in caves and mastered by the Swiss, the knife has been a hit on Father’s Day gift lifts since cavekids and cavedads. This year, treat your dad to an updated version of this Cenozoic classic. Davison developed the Swiss Army Whistle Knife to hold an extremely high-decibel whistle in one side of the knife housing, without exposing any moving parts. If needed, a person can alert a bystander, their dog or authorities and even ward off a possible attacker by drawing attention to them. The Whistle Knife is also small enough that it can fit on a key ring and be taken anywhere.

Make Variety the Slice of Life

Perfect Pizza PanDads keep it simple; meat, potatoes and dispensing good, old-fashioned life lessons. But, even the most regimented dad needs a break from the norm. Give your father the means to satisfy all his cravings with the Perfect Pizza Pan. With this incredible invention, which came from our very own President, every pizza can be made-to-order by the slice. The pan’s unique, segmented design allows users to make completely individual pizza slices. Now, Dad can enjoy his favorite toppings on one pizza.

Get His Wheels Back in the Groove

Bucket BenchNothing stands between sparkling wheel wells and your dad. No matter how much Dad claims to love the task, washing a vehicle can be a laborious and back-breaking chore. Squatting down to clean the wheels and bumpers can be brutal on the knees and back. Love your dad and his back with Davison’s Bucket Bench. This gift, with four swiveling wheels, provides a comfortable place to sit while keeping the user at the level of wheels and bumper, so no bending or squatting is required.

Hold onto His Sanity (and Tools)

Peg BoardDad’s workspace can become cluttered and disorganized, which can cause a hair-pulling scene. The last thing dad needs during a 1 a.m. birthday-bike assembly is a missing tool. Relieving Dad’s DIY frustration is as simple as keeping his tools organized. Davison’s team of designers created the Pegboard Power Drill Holder all-in-one station to securely hold a portable drill, charger and drill bits. This product can be placed on a pegboard or mounted onto a wall, providing a convenient device for organizing tools, keeping Dad sane.

Pack Ease into Gift Giving

Air RackThere is no living being better at packing three weeks’ worth of vacation supplies than an adult male with children. Make Dad’s job easier this year with the Air Rack. Transporting oversized loads on a car or SUV means having to mount a heavy roof rack to the vehicle, which can take a lot of time and effort. We created the Air Rack for a company that wanted a quick and easy way to secure oversized loads to a vehicle’s roof. The roof rack can be inflated quickly with the included pump; and, the rack easily and securely straps to the roof. We all know, when Dad’s happy on vacation, everybody is happy on vacation!

Steer clear of the same-old-same-old this Father’s Day and let these Davison spins on traditional gifts turn dad’s head!

Davison Designs Get International Hugs!

Davison News, Product News

We’ve recently received more exciting news about some Davison-designed pet products that are crossing borders and taking a bite out of the pet toy industry!

Davison InventionsAccording to our Vice President of Business Development and Licensing, there is a big shipment of eco-friendly Grass Twine Bird Houses and Bird Feeders headed to Costco Canada.

“Four containers of products are headed north to Canada, eh!  Both are client products and, if they are well received, Costco Canada will order three to five more containers and look at bringing this into the U.S. market,” said our VP.

Made with 100% organic reed grass, the Grass Twine Bird House and Bird Feeder provide birds with natural protection from predators by blending in with surrounding areas.  Their rough exterior and three openings also make it easier for birds to enter and exit.

Adding even more innovation to their pet product lines, Hugs is also working with Davison to create a new chew toy option for pets.  According to our VP,  the scrumptious new “JAWS” line already has national retailers paying attention.

“JAWS is going to be the next big craze in pet toys.  This project was designed by [our] team and is quickly turning heads at Petco and Bed Bath & Beyond.  We will be back in front of Petco in May to confirm they are moving forward with the JAWS line and 15-20 clothing items for a fourth quarter launch this year!” said our VP.

We’ve included a few “sneak peek” photos of the JAWS moulds straight from the factory:

“Dare to Invent” Takes it to the [Dog] House!

Davison News, Inventor Stories, Product News

Davison InventorIt’s time again for another innovative “Dare to Invent” webisode premiere and this week, we’re really in the dog house!

Tonight’s webisode is the eighth in our 13-episode series and features Sharon Jones, inventor of the Cool Cot House, along with our talented, and often hilarious, team of Creationeers!  Join the “Dare to Invent” house party on YouTube and at Davison.com now!

Sharon, a small-town homemaker and self-published poet, got tired of seeing pets in stuffy, dirty doghouses or, worse yet, out in the rain and sweltering sun, where there was no comfortable spot to stretch out on.

The animal lover, who often took her pet cats on walks and even camping trips, devised her own way to protect Fido, Lassie and Fluffy Kitty from bad weather and stinky shelters.

She brought her innovative idea for a comfortable, portable “tent” to Davison, where our team began working on an extreme pet home makeover that resulted in Sharon’s Cool Cot House!

Cool Cot HouseEquipped with a comfortable raised pet bed that can be used indoors and out, the Cool Cot House is lightweight, portable and features a heavy-duty, water-resistant canvas cover with mesh vents to protect pets from the rain, while increasing air flow.

The end result?  Pets stay cool and dry!

Sharon’s Cool Cot House was licensed by Hugs Pet Products and has sold in SkyMall, Sam’s Club and several other retailers.  Sharon and her product were also featured on Lifetime’s “The Balancing Act.”

Find out why Sharon says our team “went above and beyond the call of duty.”  Tune in as Sharon “Dares to Invent!”

Meet Christine Walker, Cookie Bowl Inventor

Inventor Stories, Product News

Davison InventorFor Reading, Pa., native Christine Walker, it was an ordinary day in her high school cafeteria that led to a rather extraordinary idea for a new baking product.

According to Christine, her cafeteria was noted for serving enormous chocolate chip cookies; several members of the football team were noted for the “unique” way they devoured the cookies.

“The football players would get [the cookie], then pour milk all over it… and their tray,” said Christine.  One of those football players was Christine’s then-boyfriend.

“[He] was always doing it.  I was horrified and thought, ‘I need to put a stop to this,’” said Christine.  “I thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be better in the shape of a bowl?’  That would solve the mess, but still be delicious.”

Christine shared the idea with her mom, but it wasn’t until she had moved on to performing arts school in New York City that she decided to take action.

Around 2008, Christine, a self-proclaimed obsessive baker, had baked a batch of cookies for her personal trainer.  She also told him about her “dunked cookie” idea, not realizing that he already had a connection that just might help her out.

“He said, ‘You have to pursue this!’  He had a friend, who had worked with Davison; [so], I was actually referred… and I took his advice,” said Christine.

While she said she would have loved to have pursued her idea on her own, Davison was able to provide her with the educational help she needed to take her idea to the next level.

“I don’t think one person could do it alone… not without experience,” said Christine, who also said she typically is very skeptical of taking risks.  “[I said] I’m just going to do it.  I didn’t research or read any reviews.  I was, kind of, just all in!”

According to Christine, she didn’t really have any expectations as to where the idea might go.

“It’s a risk… you just don’t know!  [I thought that] just to have tried was a step,” said Christine.

After finding out that her idea was not currently on the market, Christine said things started to look good.

“[My director] kept me informed.  I felt safe and confident with him.  He called monthly with updates,” said Christine.

Baking ProductHowever, Christine said that while the licensing department was working on finding a company interested in her idea, she was uncertain if it would ever get off the ground.

“I didn’t hear anything for two years.  I was getting mad, [but] you have to be patient with it.  [Davison] was still doing the work,” said Christine, who also said she relied on her mom and her fiance’, George.

“They are my biggest support system and the biggest fans of my cookies!” said Christine.

In a way, Christine said she was captivated by the suspense of waiting for an update on her idea.

“I think it’s fun to not know what’s going to happen… [Davison] definitely took my product and ran with it… I think it’s going to pay off in the end,” said Christine.

Brownie BowlChristine’s product has been licensed as Xtraordinary Home Products’ (XHP) Cookie Bowl and has spawned their Brownie Bowl, included under XHP’s Chicago Metallic brand.  The Brownie Bowl is headed for its selling-debut on QVC.

Our inventor, Christine, is headed for a debut of her own.  She is set to play the role of Marysol in “The Night Never Sleeps,” an action-drama film that premiered in early April!  Check out the movie’s Facebook fan page here

Congratulations to Christine and everyone that has worked on making her “dunked cookie” into the delicious Cookie Bowl and Brownie Bowl!

Christine’s invention is proving to be a slam dunk!  Tune in next Monday for some more big Brownie Bowl news!
