Davison Products Have Sold in 1,200 Stores!

Davison News, Product News

It seems like only yesterday when our founder and CEO, George Davison excitedly smashed a 9-liter bottle of champagne in our creative workspace, Inventionland, in celebration of reaching a monumental company milestone:

Though that was not long ago, we have continued to add retailers at astounding rates. Today, we’re pleased to announce that the number of stores and online retailers that have carried Davison-designed products and packaging solutions has reached 1,200!

According to Davison, Walmart was the invention industry leader’s first store; but, in 25 years, many more retailers have been added to the list of stores that have carried Davison designs.

Davison’s own invention dream launched the company back in 1989. Since then, he has perfected his Better Way to Invent and brought all aspects of the inventing process under one roof, Inventionland, the 61,000 square foot design facility that churns out 2,200 – 2,400 new inventions each year for every day inventors and corporate clients, alike.

As an inventor, Davison said that one of his greatest rewards is seeing Davison-designed products reach store shelves.

“I find it extremely rewarding to bring an idea for a new product to life… then, actually see it in packaging and on the store shelf. There is nothing more exciting,” said Davison.

Today, you can find Davison-designed products and packaging solutions in big-name retailers like Target, Kohl’s and The Home Depot. There are also hundreds of niche retailers that have added that Davison “D” to their store shelves.

Groupon Sells Out of Davison’s Hot and Cold Back-Therapy Brace Within Hours

Davison News, Featured Invention, Innovative Inventions, Inventions

If you haven’t heard of the deal-of-the-day website, Groupon, the chances are good that you may have been living under a rock for the past five years or so. While that may be a drastic statement, it is safe to say that Groupon is everywhere!

The global leader in commerce works something like this… every 24 hours, the brains behind the operation offer up an electronic coupon for a product, restaurant or service at typically 40-60% below cost.

Other than sharing sheer innovation in common, Groupon and Davison now have another link; we’re excited to announce that a Davison-designed product has been featured as one of Groupon’s showcased products!

In fact the Hot and Cold Back-Therapy Brace, which was licensed by Health Enterprises, was not only featured; but, it SOLD OUT in just a few, short hours!

While you can no longer purchase the Hot and Cold Back-Therapy Brace on Groupon, you can see what the site had to say about the Davison-designed product:

“A series of gel packs lines the brace to treat any aches with either hot or cold therapy. Its sturdy construction also helps protect against new problems by placing firm yet comfortable pressure on the lower back. The brace comes with five removable splints that users can remove for customized support.”

In addition to showcasing some of the product’s very functional features, Groupon also said, tongue in cheek, that the Hot and Cold Back-Therapy Brace“provides back support and a listening ear when you’re sad.” Now, that may be one feature we didn’t think of!

How’s That Created Thursday: Twister Caps

How's That Made Thursday, Inventor Stories, Product News

Undoubtedly, you’ve gone to the bathroom countless times.  We’d even venture to guess that, while there, you never gave a thought to how the toilet holds fast to the floor… but, we’re betting you’re glad that it does.

Now, many historians give all the credit to the man who invented the toilet.  Rumors have swirled that it was Thomas Crapper (not a pun); but, the first toilet actually dates back to around 1596 with Sir John Harrington.

Other than total necessity and obvious convenience, what made that flushing toilet “stick” – in place that is?

Just look down the next time you’re in the bathroom.  Do you see dingy, exposed bolts at the base of the toilet bowl?  Perhaps a disheveled cap that may be half on the bolt, but barely covers it?  Or, do you see a neat, barely noticeable cap that securely covers that ever-important bolt?

Enter Gary and Ruth Frazer, the masterminds behind Twister Caps, the “why didn’t anyone think of that before” answer to exposed or clumsily-covered toilet bolts.

Like most people, the Frazer’s didn’t think much of their existing toilet caps, until they saw their son’s dog running around with one in his mouth.  It was then that they came up with the idea for Twister Caps, a threaded, screw-on toilet bolt cap that fits all toilets – thanks to careful engineering.

The Davison team helped the Frazer’s invent the cosmetically-appealing cap that’s made of high-impact plastic, threaded on the inside and is very affordable.

Twister Caps easily screw onto 1/4″ or 5/16 ” toilet bolts.  Injection molding is the manufacturing process that creates the mass-produced Twister caps affordably.

While the thought process behind Twister Caps and their installation may be quite simple, a lot of work went into creating those convenient toilet caps so they would fit every toilet.

And, thanks to Twister Caps’ unique threading, they won’t easily lift off.  Their success, however… has skyrocketed!

Millions of Twister Caps have sold nationwide at stores like Ace’s, Lowe’s and Home Depot.

So, thank you, Gary and Ruth Frazer, for noticing something so small that many of us just flushed it out of our minds.  Way to make a splash!

At Inventionland, Pete focuses on helping everyday people bring their invention ideas to life, which usually involves tearing things apart or blowing things up.  So, when Pete proposed an idea for a cupcake pan that packs an extra sweet punch, his idea turned more than a few heads.

Pete’s Surprise Pan offers a fast and easy way to add something special to cupcakes and muffins.  Equipped with a post in the bottom of each well, the Surprise Pan can easily be filled with candies or fruits, adding a burst of flavor.  Just one batch can yield a wide variety of fillings that will “wow” any party-goer.

Pugz™ Soft Suedes and Fall Fleeces Cloak Petco in Eye-catching Endcaps

Davison News, Hugs Pet Products, Product News

The 2012 Fall Pugz ™ line is now in stores!

But even more exciting than having Pugz boots in one Petco and Pugz leg warmers in another Petco across town, the entire fall line is prominently displayed on endcaps.

Showcasing leashes, beds, coats, leg warmers, harnesses, boots — all featuring Pugz’s signature faux suede and fleece combination – the visual appeal of these endcaps creates a gravitational pull on Petco customers shopping anywhere near this K-9 couture.

CEO and founder of Davison, George Davison, calls the Petco Pugz endcaps a defining moment in company history and compares the excitement of seeing all of these Pugz products in one space to the excitement of “stepping to the plate and hitting a grand slam.”

“When you allow yourself to dream, you are opening yourself up for a lot of pain if stuff doesn’t work out, which I’m used to. Because of the continual effort at absorbing risks and overcoming challenges this is what can happen if you believe. If you don’t believe and have enough character, the dreams aren’t possible,” says Davison.

The 2012 Fall Pugz line, which is now in Petco and will be in Bed, Bath & Beyond on September 20th, delivers cozy comfort for every pup.

Walk with warmth

Smaller dogs get cold faster in low temperatures, but that’s no reason to abandon those long walks you and your pup enjoy. Instead, protect him or her from the elements with Pugz Boots. These adorably designed, faux leather and faux wool shoes provide comfort and keep your pet’s paws dry in any weather!  Plus, their breathable, cushioned fabric sole eliminates nasty claw scratches from hardwood floors. With an adjustable hook and loop strap, Pugz are a secure fit for every pooch!

Little paws aren’t the only appendages to keep the chill out during the fall and winter. Your dog will appreciate some leg protection, too. Pugz Leg Warmers keep your dog’s legs warm and protected with their lightweight faux suede and fleece. Perfect for pups of all sizes, these leg warmers include hook and loop straps and elastic nylon to ensure a secure fit.

Walk with confidence

Excited dogs and young pups often pull during their walks. This not only creates uncomfortable exercise for you, but can injure your dogs neck if you’re only using a collar. Get back control and enjoy those walks again with the Pugz Harness.

The Pugz Harness is a comfortable and stylish solution for reducing the stress and strain on both dogs and owners during walks. Made with breathable and lightweight faux suede and fleece, this harness is adjustable for a custom fit on your dog or growing puppy.

Add the Pugz Leash for 6 feet of stylish safety. The ultra-soft, fleece-lined generously sized handle keeps your hand cozy and comfortable, while the durable nylon leash allows you to securely walk your pet with confidence. The sturdy chrome hardware conveniently attaches to your favorite collar.

Now Sleep!

Walk nap, walk nap. That’s your best friend’s daily agenda. Optimize their comfort after those warming walks with the Pugz Air Puff Bed, which supports the limbs of older or injured pets, but is perfect for dogs without health problems as well. An adjustable frame and soft faux wool provide a warm and cozy place for any pet to relax. The removable cover is easy to wash and keep clean. For use at home, in the car or on a trip, the Pugz Air Puff Bed is easy to transport.

Twenty-twelve also features the Pugz Box Bed (see below on endcap), which allows your pet to nuzzle into cozy comfort. The ultra-durable, luxuriously cushioned base and sides invite your pet to snuggle up, get comfortable and relax.  The bed is also lightweight, portable and can be machine washed!

Davison attributes the success of Pugz and other Davison products to the Davison methodology, which George Davison has been crafting for over 20 years. “We have to have really good soils to grow our seeds. This is the combination of Inventionland and our [inventing] methodology to have not only one, but all of those [products] hit the shelf.”

Congratulations to Pugz, Hugs and Davison for all the hard work put into a great line of pup products. When dogs are dressed to the nines in their new Pugz boots and legwarmers, warm and comfortable tails are sure to be wagging outside of Petco stores this fall and winter!

Time for Technology to ‘Ketchup’ with Condiments

Featured Invention, Innovation

“Stick a knife in it!” “Smack the bottom.” “Hold it at a 45-degree angle and tap the 57.” Every ketchup connoisseur has their own technique for coaxing the tomato topping slowly out of a newly opened bottle. But things can get down right dangerous as diners flail around trying to get the last ounce of this creeping condiment from the bottom of the bottle.

Well, the painstaking process of topping our burgers and fries may be over.

From the people who brought you a mapping of the human genome and Bose sound systems comes LiquiGlide — “a revolutionary super-slippery coating to liberate your ketchup” – from a group of MIT engineers.

MIT PhD candidate Dave Smith and his team of mechanical engineers and nano-technologists from the Varanasi Research Group have put hundreds of years of bottle-beating debates to rest, creating bottle surfaces from which condiments simply glide onto your plate.

According to the LiquiGlide website, the coating is made entirely from food materials; no nanoparticles to worry about. “Even if you scraped off the coating with a knife and ate it, it would be completely harmless and flavorless.”

Varanasi’s innovative way to package condiments will hopefully make life easier in the future.

In the meantime, check out these Davison products that already do.

RV Leveler

We don’t want our vacations to turn into work. So Davison created the RV Leveler, a two-part product that enables users to quickly determine whether their motorhome is level. The RV Leveler’s base communicates wirelessly with a corresponding handheld device. The four-light LED display on the remote unit enables the user to see immediately where adjustments are needed.

Hover Creeper

Working on cars is tough enough. Navigating underneath them shouldn’t be. Traditional automotive creepers have wheels that get stuck in floor cracks and shift wildly over bolts or other loose parts that frequently break, leaving a mechanic stuck. Instead of trying to roll over an uneven or cracked garage floor, the new Hover Creeper literally hovers slightly above it.

Better Tether

It’s a doggone shame that some pet owners leave their pups twisted around trees or poles outside without food or water. Well, this Better Tether is placed in-ground, eliminating obstacle to pets, humans and machines. The divided food and water bowl can never be tipped over, and the unit never has to be moved for the lawnmower.  Also, a big congratulations to the winner of our Better Tether Giveaway, Stephanie Shreve Baker!  We hope your pup really enjoys it!

In the future, when you make a burger with the Fill N’ Grill, it will be much easier to put Ketchup in the middle. Try some bacon too. :)

Davison’s New Spins on Old Gifts

Davison News, Product News

With Father’s Day on the horizon, children, significant others and the gift-giving masses often struggle to find a present that shows how much they care about pops. Great fathers aren’t complicated, so their gifts shouldn’t be either. This year, consider these Davison products that offer new takes on some time-tested trinkets.

A Cut Above the Rest

Whistle KnifeCreated in caves and mastered by the Swiss, the knife has been a hit on Father’s Day gift lifts since cavekids and cavedads. This year, treat your dad to an updated version of this Cenozoic classic. Davison developed the Swiss Army Whistle Knife to hold an extremely high-decibel whistle in one side of the knife housing, without exposing any moving parts. If needed, a person can alert a bystander, their dog or authorities and even ward off a possible attacker by drawing attention to them. The Whistle Knife is also small enough that it can fit on a key ring and be taken anywhere.

Make Variety the Slice of Life

Perfect Pizza PanDads keep it simple; meat, potatoes and dispensing good, old-fashioned life lessons. But, even the most regimented dad needs a break from the norm. Give your father the means to satisfy all his cravings with the Perfect Pizza Pan. With this incredible invention, which came from our very own President, every pizza can be made-to-order by the slice. The pan’s unique, segmented design allows users to make completely individual pizza slices. Now, Dad can enjoy his favorite toppings on one pizza.

Get His Wheels Back in the Groove

Bucket BenchNothing stands between sparkling wheel wells and your dad. No matter how much Dad claims to love the task, washing a vehicle can be a laborious and back-breaking chore. Squatting down to clean the wheels and bumpers can be brutal on the knees and back. Love your dad and his back with Davison’s Bucket Bench. This gift, with four swiveling wheels, provides a comfortable place to sit while keeping the user at the level of wheels and bumper, so no bending or squatting is required.

Hold onto His Sanity (and Tools)

Peg BoardDad’s workspace can become cluttered and disorganized, which can cause a hair-pulling scene. The last thing dad needs during a 1 a.m. birthday-bike assembly is a missing tool. Relieving Dad’s DIY frustration is as simple as keeping his tools organized. Davison’s team of designers created the Pegboard Power Drill Holder all-in-one station to securely hold a portable drill, charger and drill bits. This product can be placed on a pegboard or mounted onto a wall, providing a convenient device for organizing tools, keeping Dad sane.

Pack Ease into Gift Giving

Air RackThere is no living being better at packing three weeks’ worth of vacation supplies than an adult male with children. Make Dad’s job easier this year with the Air Rack. Transporting oversized loads on a car or SUV means having to mount a heavy roof rack to the vehicle, which can take a lot of time and effort. We created the Air Rack for a company that wanted a quick and easy way to secure oversized loads to a vehicle’s roof. The roof rack can be inflated quickly with the included pump; and, the rack easily and securely straps to the roof. We all know, when Dad’s happy on vacation, everybody is happy on vacation!

Steer clear of the same-old-same-old this Father’s Day and let these Davison spins on traditional gifts turn dad’s head!
