Local Homemaker’s Life Turned around by Successful Pet Invention

GARFIELD, WA. – August 3, 2009 – Sharon Jones, a wife, mother, self-published poet and entrepreneur, was “amazed, thrilled and excited” when she learned her pet invention was selling in Sky Mall, a specialty goods catalog distributed to airline passengers.

She got the great news as an invited guest to Davison in Pittsburgh, PA, where her new product, the Cool Cot House, was developed. At Davison’s Inventionland, she saw the physical, packaged product for the first time and learned it was already on the market.

“That blew me away,” said Sharon. “It was way better than my original idea!”

She got an even bigger surprise when George Davison, founder and CEO, presented her with her first royalty check.

“I cried,” she recalled. “I couldn’t believe all the zeros at the end!”

After five years of work, her dream had become a reality, and success had come to her family, which had been struggling through some hard times and living in less than desirable conditions. The money couldn’t have come at a better time, as the family had been stressing about how they were going to finance a move to another town and get settled before the start of the school year.

This means that we can get ourselves out to our property and finally have a place that we can enjoy where the roof doesn’t leak and the floors aren’t caving in; someplace where we can be safe,” an emotional Sharon told the team at Davison who developed her product.

“It’s been a long time coming, and I’m so excited and thrilled that it made it somewhere,” she said, choking back tears. “And it couldn’t have happened without you guys; I’m so grateful.”

Sharon came up with her idea when thinking about other family members – her many cats. She wanted a comfortable, convenient place for them to sleep while on camping trips or at home. One day in Wal-Mart, she noticed a small demo-size tent and thought that a real tent that size offered the perfect solution. She went online and found Davison, a new product development firm that provides services to inventors, corporations and entrepreneurs. She submitted her idea and the team went to work.

The finished product, which was licensed by Maze Pet Products, features a water-resistant tent with vented roof, raised bed and mesh cot designed to keep dogs and cats cool and dry, even on the hottest or wettest of days. The portable, sturdy and easy to clean unit also offers a convenient alternative to traditional dog houses.

Sharon was not only thrilled with the product and royalty check, but by the royal treatment she and her son, Anthony, received at Davison. They toured Inventionland, “the world’s most creative workspace,” and met with Mr. Davison, who she described as “fun, amazing and down-to-earth.” They also got to meet members of the design and licensing team, as well as her Idea Coach, Barbara, whom Sharon spoke with dozens of times over the years as she struggled to keep her project going through financial difficulties.

I’m pretty excited for the client being able to fulfill her dreams and see her product on the market. That’s the client’s goal and our goal, as well,” said her senior designer.

“I love the whole team,” Sharon said. “They went above and beyond the call of duty – they put their whole heart and effort into my project.”

The Garfield mother of two will never forget her whirlwind trip to Inventionland, especially every time she receives a royalty check from the sale of her product.

“It was the most amazing thing that has ever happened to me. I have been telling everyone about it and they were very impressed … I hope I can inspire more inventors.”

Davison unites everyday people who think they have a great invention idea with their own personal team of creative and licensing dynamos who turn those ideas into hot new products that are ready to be licensed and put on store shelves.

Products designed by Davison have sold in stores such as Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Sears, K-Mart, JCPenney, Linens ‘n Things and Cabela’s. For more information, go to: www.davison.com.
