The Problem:

Nearly thirty years ago, inventor Christopher was simply enjoying a quiet evening when he heard his wife let out a painful yelp so Christopher ran to her aid. As he stood in the bathroom he could tell his wife was in a bad way. She scraped her back against the sharp metal faucet, turning a soothing soak into sudden pain. The incident left Christopher shaken and determined to fix the situation. Puzzled, Christopher thought, how could something as ordinary as a bathtub fixture cause so much unnecessary pain?

That wasn’t the only frustration this family encountered with the tub. After chatting with his wife, the two of them uncovered another issue. Like many people who love a deep, relaxing soak, Christopher often found himself battling the bathtub overflow drain. To make matters worse, the more he tried to fill the tub, the cooler the water would be. This means a relaxing warm soak after a long cold backbreaking day would eventually turn into a shallow ice bath, ultimately cutting his relaxation short .

Christopher thought what day in age do we live in – how is it possible that we can travel to space but we can’t create a better way to experience a bath. So, Christopher decided he would do just that and he went to work researching products on the market and creating a few of his own makeshift fixes.

He tried wedging a towel into the overflow drain opening, but the cloth material that a towel is made from proved unreliable. Time and time again, determined not to give up, Christopher testing and retested various methods with no success.

Between the sharp faucet hazard and the constant struggle to keep water in the tub, Christopher knew there had to be a better way and he was not giving up! 

Davison's Better Way:

Determined to create safer more relaxing bath time experience, Christopher began sketching a two-part product to solve the problems of the hazardous metal faucet and shallow bathwater—the initial concept for the Tub Shield™.

Christopher took the crucial first step of securly submitting his idea to Davison using the idea security agreement that he read all about.

After connecting with a team member at Davison, Christopher decided to move forward with his inventor’s journey and inlist the team at Davison to help.

The Davison team immediately initiated a thorough market research focusing on similar product solutions and patents that were still active.

This valuable data then fueled a collaborative product design phase. Together, Christopher and the team brainstormed creative solutions, sketched preliminary designs, and refined the concepts into a prototype that was both effective and manufacturable.

Once Christopher approved the final design, the Davison team transitioned to finding a qualified licensee or manufacturer to bring the Tub Shield™ to life.

The final product delivers on Christopher’s vision:

1. Safety: The soft, flexible cover provides a protective barrier over the metal faucet, shielding bathers from cuts, bruises, and scrapes.
2. Soaking: The secure stopper design covers the overflow drain, allowing bathers to fill the tub higher for a deeper, luxurious soak without leaks.

What started with frustration has become the Tub Shield™, a product that makes bathing safer, deeper, and far more relaxing for everyone.

This client has not realized a profit on this product. A typical project does not get a royalty agreement, sell in stores or generate a profit.
