The Problem:
For Harvy, the inspiration behind his idea came from a painful experience that had a lasting impact. A knife accident left him unable to fully use one of his fingers, turning an everyday kitchen tool into the source of a life-changing injury.
After the accident, Harvy began thinking about how easily a slip of the knife can happen while preparing food. Even experienced cooks can lose their grip, misjudge a cut, or accidentally place a fingertip too close to the blade. For beginners, seniors, or people with limited dexterity, that risk can be even greater.
Harvy wanted to find a way to help protect both sides of the cutting process: the hand holding the food and the hand controlling the knife. His original idea, which he called the Smart Knife, was inspired by a simple philosophy: when it comes to knife safety, he’d rather be “Smart than Sorry.”
That experience ultimately inspired a practical kitchen safety solution designed to help others avoid the kind of injury Harvy experienced himself.

Finger Guards™ – Knife Safety is a two-piece kitchen safety system designed to provide added protection and control while chopping, slicing, and dicing.
The first component is a durable, rust-resistant stainless steel finger shield that slips comfortably onto the user’s finger. Positioned between the fingertips and the knife blade, the shield provides a protective barrier while still allowing the hand to move naturally when holding vegetables, fruits, meats, and other foods in place.
The second component is a flexible, food-grade silicone safety ring that stretches around most knife handles. Its non-slip design provides added grip and control, helping reduce the chance of the hand slipping while cutting. Together, the two components address two common causes of kitchen knife injuries, exposed fingertips and loss of control over the knife.
Finger Guards™ can be used with chef knives, paring knives, and other common kitchen knives, making the set useful for everything from chopping vegetables and dicing onions to slicing fruit and preparing meat.
