“It’s just another wonderful example of how an idea comes to be!” said founder Mr. George Davison (“Mr. D”), excited to venture to The Container Store following great news for Davison client Jennifer’s Hanger Pocket Accessory Organizer product, which keeps clothes and accessories neatly organized.

“We found out that the product has also been private-labeled by The Container Store!” said Mr. D, noting that Jennifer’s Hanger Pockets have already found success in versions available through other stores.

Upon learning this news, Mr. D took a special trip to The Container Store’s Pittsburgh, PA location, which opened last October, following a private preview party. It was an exciting moment for Mr. D at the store as he prepared to give a special shout to Jennifer on the success of her invention idea.

More often than not, invention ideas evolve and take a different shape, resulting in a solution that may be completely different than the inventor initially pictured in their mind.

Change is a constant, especially in the invention world.

Inventions are meant to solve a problem and sometimes those problems are ones we didn’t even realize we had.

The fact of the matter is that these new solutions have the potential to make an impact on people. Whether they make our lives easier by providing a Better Way to do something or simply give us an option we didn’t know existed – successful inventions and innovations provide a solution to a problem.

That’s why at Davison we like to say, “There’s always a Better Way!”

As we mentioned before, invention ideas can change. At Davison, we see this happen all of the time and, sometimes, the results are wonderful.

We often think back to our client, Melanie, inventor of the Half N Half Cupcake Pan.

While Melanie courageously battled cancer, she also took on smaller challenges in the kitchen as a novice baker, who realized there had to be a simple way to quickly cut an entire pan of brownies to the same size with ease.

Melanie pursued her idea on her own.  After spending a lot of time and money on a patent for her idea that seemed to be going nowhere, Melanie contacted Davison to help get her idea cooking, only to find that buyers were not so interested in brownies. Cupcakes, however, were a different story.  And, so evolved the innovative Half N Half Cupcake Pan.

Melanie Dared to Invent. Like every one of our clients, she took the risk and, even though her product idea changed, it became one that provided a real solution.

So whether an invention provides a Better Way to make cupcakes that are half chocolate and half vanilla or initiates extreme advances in medicine or technology – solutions to problems are out there and sometimes, it takes great people in this world to create a Better Way to make the world a wonderfully-inventive place.

As fall approaches, the excitement continues to build around the partnership that our friends at Hugs Pet Products have formed with celebrity chef and TV host Paula Deen. With Hugs, Deen has just released her own brand of dog food, which is now selling at her website’s General Store!

Deen’s website is not the only place where consumers will be able to purchase her special recipes of dog food. They’re already available from Hugs Pet Products and the chicken, beef and lamb varieties are soon to be available in various stores around the country.

Even before these pet-pampering foods hit stores this fall, we’ve received a first glimpse of the products and packaging from our friends over at Inventionland. Late last month, the very first shipment of Deen’s dog food arrived at their creative space!

The Inventionland design team was responsible for creating the Paula Deen dog food packaging. Just take a look at the back of the bags for proof!

“Get your paws on these COOL products” was the subject line of an email from Bed Bath & Beyond that caught our attention!

The 20% off online offer showcased our Chillz Comfort Cooling Gel Pet Pad as the very first pet cooling item in the email!

You may recall that our client, Diana, came up with the idea for the Gel Pet Pad to bring comfort to her friend Bobby’s pup, Ripley, in the hot Atlanta heat.

We can only assume that Diana is as proud as we are to see her pad featured at Bed Bath & Beyond. This isn’t the first time the retailer has suggested the item to help keep pets cool during the dog days of summer, either. But, what are they saying about the Chillz Comfort Cooling Gel Pet Pad now?

“COOL PAD, dog!”

The special email that featured the cooling mat that we designed went out to anyone who had purchased an item online from Bed Bath & Beyond over the last few months.

It’s National Inventors Month and this month-long event celebrates inventions and creativity; at Davison, we have lots of both, thanks to our innovative inventors!

On Wednesday, May 6, one of our client’s inventions, the Clip & Drain, was featured on NECN, an NBC affiliate in New England.

The Davison-designed Clip & Drain was invented by our client in order to create a Better Way to drain pasta and more. It was featured in the celebrity-edition of “Does it Work?” and we couldn’t be more excited to share the news with you!

Celebrity chef Chris Coombs from Deauxave in Boston’s Back Bay put our client’s invention to the test to see if the Clip & Drain would live up to its promise of fitting on the edge of most sizes of pots and pans to take the place of bulky colanders.

In the segment, Coombs tested everything from pasta to potatoes to see if the Clip & Drain stood by its tagline: now draining won’t be a strain.

Well, you don’t get monthly QVC appearances if QVC shoppers don’t have some great “stuff” to say about your product! So, today, we’d like to take a look at just some of the reasons why the Davison-designed Miracle Meatloaf Pan carries such an awesome customer-review rating on QVC’s website.

Take it from “Grandma Andy,” who titled her four-star review

“Hubby Loves it.”

“I got this for my husband. He is the cook at our house. He loves it. He made a stuffed meatloaf with cheese and mashed potatoes. It was so yummy!”

“Tomby,” who also gave the pan a four-star review, says, “Try it….. You’ll be happy you did!”

“Wished I would have had this pan years ago…… I do not use the press as I like to put more in the meat loaf and roll like a jelly roll……
So easy to lift out and slice………… ”

And, on to a five-star rating from “Joycesp,” who titled her review, “LOVE IT.”

“I used this pan yesterday on meatloaf. Put cheese in the middle. Works great. I made beer bread with it today. Works really good. LOVE it. I will use it more than I think.”

All in all, the Miracle Meatloaf Pan has been reviewed 45 times on QVC and we know that Monday’s appearance sold over 8,500 more units, so we can’t wait to see even more great stuff that is sure to come in future reviews!

When Diana Edington, the inventor of the Chilly Mat, noticed that her new puppy was having a hard time getting comfortable, she decided to take matters into her own hands.

That’s exactly what our client inventor told “The Banner,” a Carthage, Indiana, newspaper that recently published an article about their hometown-inventing hero.

“I had a puppy that was very tiny, and was looking for a way to make her feel not only comfortable, but secure,” she said. “At the time, she was in a crate. We put things in the kennels with them or their doghouses to help them stay comfortable through the winter, and you can do that with blankets. But, in the summer, blankets are too hot.”

Like many of our clients, Edington found a Better Way to do something… in her case, help her puppy stay cool and comfortable.

To help with her invention idea, Edington found Davison online; she contacted us and we continued to brainstorm on her idea with her.

“Once we had the general ideas in place, they took off with it from there… Davison is very good about taking the ideas that you throw at them and making it in a way that will benefit the company as well as you…” said Edington.

The Chilly Mat, Edington’s invention recently has been featured as a limited-time deal on coupaw.com and at a Bed Bath & Beyond store in Ohio. But, wait… there’s more!

No, you didn’t read that headline incorrectly. We said that the Hanger Pockets we designed at Inventionland for our client Jennifer have some serious “Tex Appeal!”

Now, what on earth did we mean?

The clothing accessory organizer that conveniently slips over a hanger, allowing users to keep their outfits carefully coordinated, has been featured in the September issue of a Central Texas life and style magazine, aptly named “Tex Appeal.”

According to their website, Tex Appeal is “fascinating, alluring, engaging, tempting, influencing, and charming… all about Central Texas living . . . the people, the places, and the things that make us appealing.”

In their September 2014 issue, Tex Appeal writers featured an article that told the story of how Hanger Pockets came to be. Not only was a Davison inventor and her product featured in the magazine, but our founder and CEO Mr. Davison contributed to the story as well!

In a one-on-one interview with our inventor, Jennifer, she reveals that she originally signed with Davison in 2008, but it took her over two years to save the funds to move her idea forward. Our client said that even when her idea moved forward, there was a lot of waiting around.

“When I did hear, I got rejections from several manufacturers. At that point, I decided to put the matter in God’s hands and move forward with my life,” Jennifer said.

Early in 2014, Jennifer got a call that was not a rejection, but a licensing agreement with the Jokari Corporation. Though she was overjoyed, she said that she, again, waited another six month for her Hanger Pockets to hit the market.

“Be sure you have a strong support network also, because you will go through a roller coaster of emotions – you need people around who will believe in you and listen. You also have to walk by faith and not what you can see at the moment,” said Jennifer.

Mr. Davison said that Jennifer’s product is off to a great start, thanks to her persistence to pursue her idea.

“Hanger Pockets is off to a good start; it’s gotten the kind of response we hoped to get… [Jennifer] had an idea that worked and Jokari was happy with it, too. This is a win-win for all parties involved,” said Mr. Davison.

Yesterday, we told you about Sticks Throwing Dog Treats and the Whack-a-Mouse Interactive Cat Toy, two pet innovations that were designed for Hugs Pet Products and recently had been featured on Coupaw.com, a pet-and-deal-lover’s best friend.

Today, we’re excited to tell you even more great news about the innovative Whack-a-Mouse that we designed at Davison.

You see, a little over a year ago, the people at ThinkGeek created a short, entertaining video that featured cats, dogs and even humans playing with the Whack-a-Mouse, aptly called the “Cat Whack a Mole.”

Now, that video has reached over 180,000 hits on YouTube, ranking it as one of the top five videos when you search for “Whack-a-Mole” or “Whack-a-Mouse” on the site!

What does that mean for the Davison-designed pet product? Well, we did a little more digging and found out that those 180,000+ views translated to the Whack-a-Mouse being out of stock on ThinkGeek.com!

What a lesson in the law of supply and demand!
