At Davison, there’s not much sweeter than when we can help a client inventor fine-tune their ideas and turn them into new products. By guiding a client and their invention idea through our product development process, the ultimate hope is for product success.

So, what is sweeter? How about when products begin selling in major big-box retailers?

Just this week, the Davison licensing department announced that client Justin’s dessert carrier idea has made its way to Bed Bath & Beyond – online and within 35 select brick-and-mortar stores across the nation!

It’s a huge win for Managing Senior Directors of Licensing Matt and Bob and client Justin, who’ve been working to bring the dessert carrier such success since 2012. In reality, this further bit of success is just another piece of the success pie as Justin’s dessert carrier had initially been licensed to Love Cooking Company who later relaunched the product under their David Tutera Decadent Delights collection, after solidifying a partnership with the celebrity wedding and entertaining expert in 2015.

“Love Cooking informed me that the entire David Tutera Decadent Delights line is now available for sale at Bed Bath & Beyond online!” said Matt. As you can imagine, this news really helped to jumpstart Matt’s week and we couldn’t be happier for client Justin!

According to Matt, Justin’s dessert carrier and the rest of Love Cooking Company’s entire David Tutera Decadent Delights collection will be tested in the 35 select Bed Bath & Beyond stores through the month of November. If all goes well, the line could be featured on Bed Bath & Beyond store shelves indefinitely!

Congratulations on a job well done by Davison’s licensing department and to client inventor Justin on a sweet idea! Do you also have a sweet idea? Confidentially submit your idea here.

The inventor of the Dessert Carrier has not realized a net profit on this product. The typical Davison client project is not licensed, sold in stores or profitable.

Since 1989, Davison® has helped idea people turn their ideas into new products using our nine-step method that has proven to be A better way to invent®. For over twenty-five years, people have trusted our team of professionals to work through their ideas and hopefully get them to a stage where new inventions and innovations can be presented to corporations, manufacturers and retailers for possible licensing.

It’s not an easy process, but it’s a rollercoaster that many find to be worth the ride! Let’s see how the Davison licensing department does it.

According to Licensing’s Bob and Matt, it’s all about staying true to our inventing method. How can we match our clients’ ideas with the right companies’ product lines and turn them into products that are ready to license? This question is only answered with a whole lot of work, research and relationship-building! Here’s a snapshot of just a few things our licensing team thinks about and works towards on a daily basis:

Get in tune with the company

It all starts with finding out more about a company’s mission, manufacturing style, product lines and their competition.

“We want to know where their focus is, so we can drive more products to best suit their needs,” said Bob and Matt. “They need to know who they’re up against – and so do we!”

Learn the areas of attack

“We want to know what areas they want to attack. Then, we can focus on the client ideas that fit those categories so we can make an impact to the company as quickly as possible in their space,” said this Davison licensing duo. It’s all about knowing what a company does and does not want to see.

Find out the best ways to integrate

Having knowledge and background on a potential licensing partner only takes us so far. Then, it’s time to figure out the best ways to integrate client ideas into these companies’ lines.

“We want to know their business so we can develop ideas into product samples that integrate into their organization,” said Davison CEO and founder Mr. George Davison. “The Davison way to invent is all about integration!”

Are you ready to move forward with your idea with the help of Davison and our licensing department? Confidentially submit your idea today!

Every day, we are faced with a multitude of decisions. From the simplest, like what shoes you’ll wear that day, to the more difficult decisions, like deciding if today is the day that you’ll take the steps to chase after your dreams. As the clock ticks on, we are constantly uncovering answers to questions.

Deciding if you want to pursue your dreams isn’t an easy decision to make. There are a myriad of emotions that come rushing through, like uncertainty and anxiousness in not knowing what to expect when making this type of decision.

Though this can seem overwhelming and perhaps make you hesitant to take a chance, one thing that may be more plaguing is the feeling of regret – the regret of not knowing whether or not you could have succeeded.

Though failure could be the outcome, we’ve been taught time and time again that failure is a learning experience and our very own founder and CEO George Davison can attest to the notion of failing your way forward.

So, when idea people make the decision to pursue their dreams and choose Davison to join them on their journey, it’s always motivating to receive their feedback once they’ve reviewed their Pre-Development Portfolios.

We value client feedback because it gives a well-rounded understanding of how we can improve our inventing method in order to help idea people everywhere potentially make their dreams a reality.

Here are just a few examples of the recent feedback we’ve received from our clients:

“I was blown out of the water by it.” – Tommie T.

“Truly amazed at all the research and how well thought out the Portfolio is…Thank you.” – Zina S.

“I would not know how to move forward without it.” – Daisy P.

“It was easy to understand and answered my questions on the process.” – Michael P.

If you’re ready to make your inventing dream a reality, submit your invention idea today!

Husband and wife duo, Ruth and Gary, reached out to Davison 12 years ago for our expertise in preparing and presenting their product to corporations for licensing. Twister Bolts and Twister Caps solved the problem of caps popping off the base of the toilet – a relatable problem for many consumers. Little did they know then that their product would be a huge success and would result in a royalty check every quarter for a dozen years!

Just like with most invention ideas and products, it’s not always an easy path to success. When it came to Ruth and Gary’s Twister Bolts and Twister Caps, it was clear this product wasn’t going to get licensed right away, taking into account that toilet bolts come in different sizes. From a retailer’s perspective, they are always looking for a simple solution for customers that won’t cause confusion in a store aisle or result in customers headed back to the store for returns.

“The problem was how do we get different threads to fit?” said Mr. Davison. “We came up with a better way!” By designing caps and bolts to fit two major sizes – ¼ inch and 5/16 inch – Ruth and Gary’s Twister Bolts were fit for store shelves success.

With millions of units selling around the nation in big box stores like ACE Hardware, Home Depot and various mom and pop hardware stores still to this day, it’s a big win for Ruth & Gary and for the team at Davison who couldn’t be happier to see a client succeed. It’s all about moving forward and not giving up!

“These people didn’t give up. They worked on the project before they got here and failed. They spent quite a bit of money and failed. They then decided to bring us in and to get back up again and try to fail their way forward with us!” said Mr. Davison.

“Failing your way forward is normal. Keeping yourself positive through the process is sometimes a challenge, but you can’t find success if you’re not willing to get back up and try and try again. From the Davison perspective, what we like about this is we believed in our clients. We believed in our ability to help them. We brought them into our community so they felt a sense of belonging as inventors and together we were able to create something that’s now helping consumers with a problem in their house for over twelve years!” said Mr. Davison.

While the clients can see the fruits of their labor every quarter, we can see their success on store shelves!

Are you ready to pursue your inventing dreams like Ruth and Gary? If so, you can safely submit your invention idea, here!

The unofficial end to summer took place over the weekend as we celebrated Labor Day, which means that the unofficial start to fall has begun.

With the beginning of each new season comes the chance to start fresh and refocus your attention on things that matter, like your goals.

It’s always motivating for us at Davison when we receive feedback from our clients who have reviewed their Pre-Development Portfolios.

Their feedback is valuable to us, because it gives us a better understanding of how we can improve and refine our inventing method to help idea people everywhere potentially realize their dreams.

It’s for this reason that we like to share what our clients are saying about us with you. Check it out!

At the end of June, we published a blog post that covered the dawn of color TVs. In this blog, we talked about the very first commercial TV program that was broadcast in color by CBS more than 64 years ago.

Today, we’re sharing our founder’s connection to one of the key inventors of color TV! Davison and inventing go hand-in-hand. After all, our products have sold on more than 1,200 retail store shelves and online.

So, it’s really no surprise that our very own CEO and founder, Mr. George Davison, would somehow have a connection to a man who helped invent the color TV.

“The inventor of the color picture tube is a friend of mine. He and I are in a picture together in my office with a wonderful and impacting letter,” said Mr. Davison.

In this letter, Joe Donahue talks about how George Davison has made great strides in both his career and the Davison Inventing Method.

“The progress you have made and the level of proficiency you have now achieved from that modest start is now beyond imagination. I am not only very impressed but thrilled to witness such a dynamic and constructive organization in action,” said Donahue.

If we’ve said it once, we’ll say it again; in the inventing world, things change. People are constantly working to find a better way to carry out even the most everyday tasks.

For Donahue, the idea of taking something that already exists and making it better is very familiar. Donahue, the key inventor to the color picture tubes that are found in televisions, has taken notice of our founder’s keen ability to excel in the world of inventing.

“Because of this background {talking about his experience as an inventor} I feel particularly qualified to assess the creative and productive capability of your organization. You turn out advances and inventions at a prodigious rate that is probably unmatched anywhere in the world,” said Donahue.

The Davison Inventing Method has helped many people turn their inventing dreams into a reality and it’s because of this process that we feel a great sense of pride.

After all, there’s nothing quite like seeing the Davison “D” on store shelves across the country.

“Not only do you create your own advances but you are flexible enough to help other inventors through the many precarious steps of turning their idea into a reality. Many inventors are not capable of, nor realize the importance of the steps of, patent search, patent filing, designing a product that satisfies a need and that is readily manufactured in a cost effective manner, designing functional packaging, producing realistic prototypes of the product and the packaging, and presenting the product to the key people in commercial world. Your organization is well versed in all of these areas and they provide a very worthwhile service,” he noted.

So, the next time you turn your television, you can thank Joe Donahue for the ability to watch your favorite show in color!

Copyright Davison, 2016

Davison has not provided services to Mr. Donahue and he has not been paid for his endorsement.

Did you know that there’s an app for that? A Davison app that is!

Recently, Davison has evolved its app development service, bringing the design and creation of new app ideas to an exciting new level!

Idea people have always been encouraged to safely submit their invention ideas to Davison in hopes of helping them to develop their innovative product ideas, but now, idea people can also reach out to Davison as a now complete development service for creating new mobile apps!

We have adapted our inventing method for mobile app development, providing an even better way to invent.

“We are so pleased to be able to bring app ideas to life and for sale in the App Store at lightning speed. With all of our designers and graphic artists working together to create all the necessary code and visual interaction to make apps work, it has been quite a journey in figuring out a way to make this experience affordable for all,” said our founder and CEO Mr. George Davison.

Currently, mobile apps are being developed solely for distribution through the Apple App Store with later plans hopefully to include Android distribution.

And check out a few screenshots of some of the apps like Daily German Verb and Coach’s Whiteboard in action!

The idea of “Fail your way forward” hits close to home here at Davison, but in a good way. Keep reading to learn more.

“I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” – Thomas A. Edison

“Fail your way forward.” It may sound counterproductive, because failure often carries a negative connotation. In reality, failure doesn’t mean the end; failure means the beginning of something new.

Just take our founder and CEO George Davison’s story, for example.

It all began in 1986 when Davison, like many people, had an idea for a product. His product was one that would prevent toothbrush germs from spreading and getting everyone in his family sick.

After two years of hard work and spending nearly every dime to his name to bring his idea to life, a major corporation beat him to the market with his idea.

This is a moment that could have stifled anyone’s dreams. And though this is what some would characterize as a failure, for Mr. Davison, he used this as ammunition to “fail forward.” How? Because it got Mr. Davison thinking, “Why didn’t other idea people have access to a similar process; an affordable idea-to-product method like the one major corporations used?”

For Mr. Davison, he saw a need and since necessity is the mother of all invention, he needed everything under one roof to invent his products in a timely, efficient and cost-effective manner.

He knew there was a better way to compete; after all, inventions are made because they provide solutions to problems.

From this idea, a new method that would benefit future generations of idea people was born. This idea didn’t develop overnight; it took years of experimentation to figure out the best means to affordably transform ideas into products.

On his journey, Mr. Davison experienced his fair share of failures and successes that led him to the best approach. Over time, he found a method that worked.

After two decades of hard work, Mr. Davison developed an invention method that would forever change how product ideas became actual products. It’s this method that dubbed Mr. Davison as a “Creative Genius” by Entrepreneur Magazine.

“We’ve invented the world’s most affordable way to invent and at one time, we didn’t know if we could do that. Just like all other inventions, you have to hope that you can invent it. You have to hope that you can make it affordable. You have to hope that you can tell the story about what it is – and that gets you right back to [some of the] basic pieces of inventing,” said Mr. Davison.

Mr. Davison has shared his inventing method with us and he wants to share another piece of invaluable advice with fellow idea people:

“If you’re going to be an inventor and you have an idea that you want to get out there to the world, I would stress to you to think very carefully about your chances, as a first-time of doing everything right is pretty hard. By the way, that was me many years ago. Before I started this company, I was in my early twenties and naïve; I thought I could and unfortunately I failed miserably… It took me many years to develop a skillset and to be able to build systems, so that we could actually invent affordably and achieve the outcome we were looking for.”

The typical Davison client project does not result in a license, sales in stores or profit to the inventor.

For over 25 years, we’ve been helping innovative people get their products on store shelves. In fact, our products have sold in over 1,200 stores.

This feat wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for our customer obsession and by that we mean our clients – the inventors.

In a recent article published on the Huffington Post titled, Customer Obsession is the New Design, our customer-driven mindset was echoed.

Airbnb’s head of design, Alex Schleifer, started a critical conversation about why design-led companies simply don’t work.

The head of design at a lucrative company is saying that design-led companies aren’t any good? Though this claim may be a bit befuddling, at the core of this argument is a larger conversation, one that’s rooted in the customer.

In the article, Rich Nadworny, Principal at Empatico, design consulting, argues that companies need more people who are “Customer Obsessive” and to use design tools to invent new things, new processes and ultimately, new experiences.

“If you’re customer obsessive, you must know what matters to someone else. You feel the drive to solve their problem first as a way of solving yours. That’s where innovation that matters happens,” he said.

Nadworny made note of something that stuck out, the idea of feeling the need and the desire to solve the customer’s problem first as a way of solving yours.

The notion of solving problems is at the core of inventions; and, at Davison, we work diligently every day to help our clients find a Better Way to do something through their problem-solving inventions.

That’s why this article reminded us of the Davison Inventing Method, a process that’s solely focused on our clients and their ideas.

Our work at Davison wouldn’t be possible if it weren’t for the creative minds of our clients, the inventors, who take a chance on their inventions and work with us to possibly turn their dreams into reality.

So in the end, we think it’s perfectly fine to have a healthy obsession with being customer obsessive.
