The annual Consumer Technology Association’s International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) took place earlier this month in Las Vegas. At this trade show, some 3,800 consumer technology manufacturers, developers and suppliers were all in one place showcasing their latest and greatest technology innovations.

This year, Managing Senior Directors of Licensing Matt and Robert were among the more than 170,000 attendees at CES 2016. Can you believe that this tradeshow covers over 2.47 million square feet of exhibit space? In this space was everything from 3D printing and robotics, fitness, wireless devices, robots and much, much more.

This wasn’t Matt’s first CES rodeo, but it was Robert’s first appearance at one of the tech world’s biggest shows.

“It was a lot of learning… learning the trends… learning what companies were looking for… it’s humbling! At the same time, it’s pretty exciting! It’s the largest show we attend all year and it’s amazing to see how expansive the industry can be,” said Robert.

Matt had a unique experience this year, since he was given the opportunity to see CES 2016 through the eyes of Robert, a first-timer.

“It brought me back to my first show,” said Matt. “The amount of companies… the amount of products… to know that we’re working with some of the companies there showing products,” said Matt.

This year, Matt and Robert were able to make new connections all the while maintaining their current business relationships to see where the latest technology trends are heading.

“It’s cool to see where the trends are going,” said Robert, who mentioned how much solar-powered technology was on display at the show. “It’s off-the-grid solar-powered stuff. For me, that was awesome!”

At the show, the pair saw lots of drones, smart watches, virtual reality headsets and hoverboards on display.

According to Matt, the fact that the big companies are sharing similar ideas shows a need for innovation, which gives Davison a leg up in the innovation sphere.

“When we see that they need innovation, it helps us. We can say ‘Yeah, we can do that,’” said Matt. “It really opens doors up.”

At Davison, we love traveling to various trade shows in a multitude of industries. These shows align perfectly with our “We Try Longer” mentality that we apply to our work as well as give us an opportunity to meet with innovative minds from far and wide to find a potential home for our clients’ products.

In the beginning of November, Davison President Frank Vescio and Managing Senior Director of Licensing Matt made their way to Las Vegas, NV for an action-packed week.

Though Las Vegas is known for its nightlife, casinos and much more, this Davison duo went to Vegas for their annual trip to the SEMA and AAPEX trade shows.

The SEMA Show is “the premier automotive specialty products trade event in the world” and this year’s show drew over 60,000 automotive product buyers!

While the AAPEX, or the Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo, on the other hand, featured “over 2,200 automotive aftermarket manufacturers and suppliers showcasing innovative products, services and technologies to 39,000+ targeted buyers.”

So, with two big trade shows and an excited Davison duo, it’s only fitting that we can report on some great news from both SEMA and AAPEX.

According to Matt, both shows were an overall success!

“As always, it’s good to get out and meet with the companies we work with to see their new product launches at the show,” said Matt.

Furthermore, Mr. Vescio said that attending these types of shows is great for catching up with old contacts, making new contacts and working on improving our processes.

“It’s always great to attend these shows. It allows me to see past contacts, meet the new contacts that the company is establishing, watch our own licensing team members in action and get a pulse for what we can constantly do to improve our process of getting more products on store shelves than ever thought possible,” said Mr. Vescio.

Matt said that the connections Mr. Vescio and he made did not stop with just companies we’ve already built relationships with.

“We met with quite a few companies and established new contacts within the automotive industry,” said Matt.

“We are off and running to increase our product presence (and the Davsion ‘D’) within this category!” said Matt.

Though we can’t disclose all of the great details from these shows like who we talked to and what companies we are pursuing, we can share with you some of the great photos that Mr. Vescio and Matt snapped while at the 2015 Las Vegas SEMA and AAPEX shows!

Last week, the Las Vegas Convention Center was filled with over 27,000 hardware industry professionals for the 2014 National Hardware Show, which caters to the home improvement and DIY markets.

And, what would a major trade show be without some Davison-designed products?

At the 2014 National Hardware Show, Creative Outdoor Distributor featured several products that were designed at Inventionland, including: the Bucket Bench, Compressor Keeper, Chuck A Puck, Curved Sports Bench and Garage Grate. Additionally, Creative Outdoor Distributor also showcased the Auto Pocket which was designed at Inventionland, too!

More than 27,000 industry professionals are expected to attend the three-day event that is being held at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Among a total of nearly 900 exhibitors, the National Show for Pet Retailers showcased our licensing partner, Hugs Pet Products, who was happy to show off several Davison designs.

According to our representatives, Hugs debuted their 2013 catalog at the show, along with retailer-favorite Davison designs, like the Hydro Toys and the adorable Pugz collection of apparel and accessories.

“We had interest from everywhere! We saw major retailers and industry spokespeople like Wendy Diamond and Charlotte Reed. Plus, we met with magazine reps from Dog Fancy and Modern Dog,” said Vossler, who also told us that Hugs’ social media presence helped them connect with an even larger audience.

“Social media played a major part in gaining visitors to the booth. We were able to interact with other attendees and spark interest in our booth and products.”

One of those wildly-popular products was Hugs’ new Davison-designed Jaws collection, a dynamic chew toy line with soft rubber tines that massage gums and remove plaque, plus an edible treat to keep dogs satisfied for hours. Vossler said SuperZoo attendees really bit on to that line and more!

“Everyone loved the new products, especially the Pugz and Jaws lines,” said Vossler.

While it sounds like it may have been all work and no play for our team while they were in Vegas, we’ve got proof that there was some time for rubbing elbows with a reality-TV star.

They were able to meet Holly Madison from “The Girls Next Door,” who is also pawing into the pet product industry with her new company, Lucky Pet Products.

This time, they’ve recruited the help of some of our very talented and always inventive Creationeers.  Judging from the photo (Jason Rogge with another Creationeer asleep in the car), our creative team has been working so hard that they’ve been having a hard time keeping up… or staying up!

We checked in with Davison’s Vice President of Business Development and Licensing to see what kind of pet product news we could dig up!

“We have lots going on,” said our VP, with the same sly grin he gives when he’s about to tempt us with big news.  “I am going to Bed Bath & Beyond this week… and PetSmart next week with Hugs Pet Products to discuss the Toys R Us pet line we are working on with them.”

While he didn’t divulge any more top secret information, we’ll be eagerly waiting to share the latest product news, just as soon as we hear it!

What we can share is the MASSIVE list of places where our team will be “trying longer” to get Davison-designed pet products on store shelves this fall!

In August alone, our team will be meeting with Walgreens in Chicago and Bed Bath & Beyond in New York, not to mention attending the C & S Fall Show, West Plains Vet Show and the MidStates Fall Show.

September brings more meetings and more trade show exposure.  First up is product review at Menards in Wisconsin; then, it’s off to the Siemer Enterprises Fall Show in Illinois, and back to Wisconsin for the Prince Distributors Fall Show.  Finally, it’s all the way to Las Vegas for the SuperZoo Show!

Product reviews and trade shows continue in October, when our team revisits Menards in Wisconsin and attends the H.H. Backer Christmas Show and Non-Foods Marketing Show in Chicago and Atlanta, respectively.

A Hugs Pet Products representative also spilled the beans on some upcoming Hugs products that you may see on the stores shelves at Bed Bath & Beyond and Petco this fall.

“Coming soon… Pugz apparel line [which includes] harnesses, coats, leg warmers and throws!” he said, also adding that the company is working on a line of cat toys, too!

With all of this awesome news from the road, we think our licensing partner summed it up best for us.

“As you can see, we are very busy doing everything we can to get in front of customers and prospects,” he said.

Inventionland has been getting some high-profile press lately, including a feature on the Fox Business Network and two international workspace blogs! Celebrated for its unique design, Inventionland is an eye-catching attention getter.  Of course, we already knew that to be the case.

Fox Business Network cameras joined Mr. D. at Inventionland, where they filmed him inside Davy’s Treehouse and on the trademark Treehouse slide. “Inventionland is like a big playground for creative people,” said George during his interview with Lauren Simonetti. “We try to keep everybody in a state of mind that is real creative and real positive, because the world of inventing can be a crazy up-and-down world. It’s a state of mind.”

George also got the chance to talk to Simonetti about some of Davison’s products, including Twister Caps, the Meatball Baker and the Hydro Bone. At the end of the segment, George offered some words of encouragement to potential inventors, after recalling the process involved in his first invention.

“Don’t feel like you are all alone. People don’t know how to develop new products in a simplified way. But, the Davison Inventing Method makes it simple: get confidentiality established and then find somebody that has put a lot of inventions into the stores. If you come to us, we have the most new inventions in stores out of any company in our industry.”

Morning Blend
Mr. D. also got the chance to further explain the Davison method on “The Morning Blend,” Milwaukee’s live morning talk show that features local businesses, non-profits, events and celebrities. “That process is something I’ve been working on for 20 years. Inventing, affordability and storytelling… all inside the inventing method,” Mr. D. says.

Morning Blend host Wild Bill Wood of Ft. Meyers, Florida, asks viewers, “Have you ever had an idea to make the world a simpler, happier or maybe more convenient place to live?” Cue Mr. D. riding his signature yellow Treehouse slide inside Inventionland. Mr. D. goes on to show viewers a cross-section of Davison products.

Mr. D. also got the chance to speak with Shawn Tempesta of the Las Vegas Morning Blend, where he showcases the Water Rocket and Twister Caps, among other products. Mr. D. says that Davison sets itself apart in the inventing community, because most successful inventors don’t offer their services to the public – but Davison does.
