These old suitcases get a second life by an ingenious owner who turned them into a travel themed vanity and a wall cabinet. The article refers to a past, not so long ago, when material shortages, cost constraints and a desire for new design encouraged a whole new generation of designers. The opportunity is here, the market is ready, so what better time than now?

Then my mind lapsed into deep thought, again, about explosions in space, vivid colors in darkness, and what it may sound like to see and hear bursts of light in the nothingness of space. All in all, I hope that you may find some inspiration in viewing this photograph, and perhaps it stirs your imagination into some moment of abstract thought like I encountered.

The New York Times has just submitted its Year In Ideas 2008 collection for your approval. This alphabetical hit-list of great ideas was compiled for viewers to look back into a year of substantial ideas that have left their mark in many genres. Included are a few winners of the design world. TED viewers may recognize Josh Klein’s vending machine for crows design. Or maybe you saw Timesculpture earlier this year, an interesting display of video editing that was used for a Toshiba advertising campaign. Take the time to peruse this Year in Ideas and look at the innovative ways these creative people have gambled on a once seemingly odd idea. It can be an inspiration to all of us.
