ID Selection has a few designs worth mentioning. The video below is of a sand sculpting tool created by a self-described toy designer. Where were these things 5 months ago when I was at the beach?  Simple, yet effective. 

Then there are these two kitchen gadgets that are a pleasure to look at and are clever in how they function. First is a lettuce cutter, used to core a head of lettuce. And if it works as I imagine, its plastic edge can be used to press and roll circularly to chop lettuce without browning the edges. 

The second, a handled cheese grater, is not only safe but sleek in appearance. Hollowed and with a built-in container in the handle, this grater allows you to shave the surface of a block of cheese (or chocolate) and then pop off the handle to reveal a mound of grated cheese (or chocolate).

Peach pits and corn cobs to scrub your pots clean? That’s right! Goodbye Detergent has designed Spaghetti Scrubs, a line of naturally abrasive, detergent–free coarse scrubbers for cleaning your pots and pans. They can even be used to clean off appliances around the kitchen. Not much water is needed to get scrubbing, and then all you need is a little elbow grease.

Dual function to everyday items is a good approach to design. Switch plates are found in every room, and someone has taken the liberty to create a product which utilizes that prime real estate that exists around every doorway. Smart design, for sure.

This holiday season has consumers searching for a variety of gifts, including kitchen gadgets. Take a look at some of these red and green gadgets, all designed to be the perfect holiday gift.

By cutting out a step, yes the pun is intended, this mushroom chopper makes it easier to cut and collect mushrooms right off of the cutting board. As you press down, the blades slice, and then the cut mushrooms fill the transparent cup so you can add them right into your salads, casseroles or soups. Smart thinking!

This is a clever design. A tea cup with a mixing ball that you swirl to stir. And with a protruding, curved base, the ball does not fall out as you tilt back to drink. Clever, to say the least.

Yeah, that’s right, a gasket for your switch plates and outlet covers. I have read where this is a great idea to maintain a seal this winter when watching heating costs. Do your own homework, but it looks like heat can make its way out from more than just windows and doors.
