When I recall the Christmases of my youth, I think of all of those must-have gifts I could not live without. Some of them I still have, some of those I could have lived without. This collection of gifts will probably be a dead giveaway of my age, but I wanted to share those holiday gifts I desired so badly growing up. (The kid in me still desired toys as recently as the iPod Touch a few years ago. And yes, I was very excited to open it Christmas morning.)
The experience of opening a box and putting together every part as fast as you can, precisely applying decals, or plugging in and playing without the need for an instruction booklet, is priceless. The desire to discover the toy, to transform it, install it, or load it — to understand and operate it for the first time, is ageless.
To this day, I still look forward to discovering what I will get, as I did when I was a child. No matter the size, the price, or the occasion, every sense stirs your imagination when you first open a new gift. Crumpling the wrapping paper, opening the box and feeling the product for the first time, holding it in your hands and smelling it fresh from the factory, as if it was made just for you. Product design and packaging can be so great sometimes!
