This Core77 article is a good read for students and conference attendees who tend to make sketches, not take notes.  This article touches on how people can listen, synthesize and visualize what they are engaging in, and map out a sketch to better understand information in the future.

The Birthplace of Ideas

Design Tools, General Design, Industrial Design, Innovators & Creators

The garage is a great place to tinker around, but sometimes you need a little more space. It’s been said that some of the better ideas have come from the backyard and garage. Maybe we can add these to the list?

Digital Finger Painting

How many of us know someone who bought an iPad as an over-sized smart phone? After several months, other than checking email, they have yet to explore the boundaries of what the iPad offers.

Davis Kassan has taken his talent to a new media, the iPad, and documented how he has used it with great technique and execution for portraitures. What’s unique about this video is that it was live-streamed from his studio over the course of 3 hours. Check it out.

Do You Architect?

I came across this set of videos designed to guide people curious about choosing architecture as a discipline. Each short video, accompanied by a time-lapsed notebook sketch, is narrated by an architect explaining commonly held misconceptions and clarifying the discipline it takes to become an architect.

Each of the videos is short (2 min.) and to the point. This informative series is a true crash course if you want to know anything about architecture. As a bonus, the last video is a quick guide to writing like an architect.

Another quick note, I found this book and thought it was a very good read. Fully illustrated and simple to understand, it is perfect for creative types wanting to soak up up good information fast.

A DIY Handbook For Designers

Core77 featured a write-up of this book, Exploring Materials. Void of any elusive materials or hard reading, this books touts itself as an honest approach for students and designers looking to know more about materials and processes. The review even mentions one of the tips and tricks about everyday items — that felt is easier cut when soaked in water then frozen. This may be worth a trip to Amazon.
